Hi! My name is Arielle Mandell Paterick and I’m a 33 year old wife and mom to two fur babies currently residing in Boston. Before I babble about myself, I wanted to genuinely thank you for visiting my blog!
I bought this domain back in March of 2017 with the intention to launch a blog that served both as a creative outlet as a well as a platform for me to share my story, journey, life, likes, dislikes, tips, and more, in hopes that I can help, inspire, or motivate at least one person. Sometimes it’s so easy to get in your own head, be your own worst enemy, or get in a rut but I’ve always found that connecting/relating with others, hearing their stories, and learning tips and different point of views, can go a long way.
Why The Balanced Belly?
I’m a strong believer that your gut is your second brain and truly affects multiple aspects of your life. I’ve always had stomach problems and started noticing that when I eat
Now I’m not saying I eat perfectly. Hell no. I wish I had that much self-control! But I’m also a firm believer in balance. Balance is the other key to happiness because if you don’t have it, you’ll drive yourself crazy. I’m the kind of person that has often been all or nothing-either super restrictive or not having a care in the world. Neither is healthy and I’ve learned that the only way to be happy is to live a balanced lifestyle. Eat pizza! But workout, make a healthier version or go back to eating clean the next day. Make decisions and choices that you know will make you feel good and if you slip, you can’t beat yourself up about it.
Finding balance doesn’t only pertain to food, it’s a complete way of living. Balancing workouts, love and a career, fashion, home, travel, etc. and that’s what I’m sharing with all of you through The Balanced Belly. A happy gut is the core to a happy life and finding balance is key for a sane life.
I’ve always loved fashion and growing up I wanted to be a fashion designer. Once I realized I couldn’t draw, that dream went away. But from as early as I could remember, I loved clothes! In middle school I’d write my outfits on my calendar so I wouldn’t repeat any even won “Best Dressed” in 8th grade (not that it counts for anything). I would take my babysitting money and head to the mall with my best friend on the weekends where I would spend hours digging through the sale racks at Macy’s where I would find the best deals.
Not much has changed! I still love finding good deals and I hate paying full price. I invest in timeless pieces and buy fast fashion for seasonal trendy pieces. I spent many years working in the apparel industry and it’s something I’m passionate about. When you look good, you feel good! And you can do it frugally. Can’t wait to put my bargain hunting skills to work and share my finds 🙂
Being active and exercising has always been a huge part of my life. I did ballet, tap, and jazz for 10 years, soccer (only lasted one season because I danced on the soccer field), tennis, track, and cross country. I still love running but I also love pilates, kickboxing, and trying new workouts! And honestly, the main reason I workout is because it keeps me sane. I need to do at least a little bit each day because I find it’s the best way to clear your head and get into a positive mindset.
Food, Health, & Wellness
Food and I have a tricky relationship. I love food. Like a lot. Pizza, sushi, ice cream, chocolate, goat cheese, bbq chicken. You name it. However, I hate that so many of those yummy things either don’t make me feel good or make me gain weight. And I’m kind of an emotional eater, as a lot of people are. We often eat when we’re sad or stressed (some people can’t eat in those situations and I don’t get it) and we eat when we celebrate. It’s taken years to learn how to manage stress in different ways and I’m on a continuous journey to have a healthy and mindful relationship with food.
Luckily, I also love to cook! This has allowed me to create healthier versions of food I enjoy and learn more about what I’m putting into my body. I try to be paleo as much as possible (my stomach does not like gluten and my skin does not like dairy) but I’ll be honest, it’s too hard for me to do 100% of the time but the majority of my recipes are gluten or dairy free. Ultimately, I just try to eat as clean as possible so I mentally and physically feel better.
